Yes, with anything words / actions / thoughts I believe intentions are everything. So correct, when just repeating a curse word only by vocalizing it, it is not a sin, sure. But I just think never using curse words just portrays any person in a more intelligent and classy light.
I agree intentions are everything. Curse words are more of a wisdom issue. Some people hold your view, that language indicates intelligence and class. But that's more wisdom/preference not a sin issue.
Good read. I used to think cussing was a “sin”. However, I agree with your point that our words are just words and should be used wisely and not to tear down others.
During Covid, I read more posts by Christians demeaning others thus doing more damage to Gods kingdom and those folks never used a cuss word.
I’ve work In a field where cussing is common place and i cussed A LOT, even at home until i had to set the example for my kiddos. I felt my language would have a detrimental impact on them, so I changed. I know some parents that cuss freely with their kids around and that’s their decision, I try not to judge.
Thanks for sharing this, Dustin. I really appreciate your honesty and I think you’re spot on. The heart behind our words matters far more than whether they check some external box. I’ve seen plenty of “clean” language used in cruel, divisive ways that absolutely don’t reflect Christ.
And I respect what you said about being intentional around your kids. That’s wisdom. It’s not about legalism, it’s about love. We’re all shaping the people around us, whether we realize it or not. I think the goal isn’t to just clean up our vocabulary, but to let our words consistently reflect the grace and truth of Jesus.

Thanks again for jumping in.
