This was eye opening. In all my 50 years I don't think I've ever heard this story explained this way. I love knowing the historical details, so the info about Saul's height factoring in, the sling/army tactics, and then the pattern throughout the Bible was much appreciated!
I love this. Such a powerful message! That part — we aren’t David! I’ve heard it taught in churches that way! But he just points the Christ! What a beautiful message! Thank you so much!
Amen. David stood in the gap and won, only to fall, as we all do, again. Jesus stood in the gap and won for all eternity. For us. Your perspective on this story has opened new pathways and deeper self-reflection. Thank you.
I first read JCP’s post on how & why to leave a church & have enjoyed his writings ever since. He is always spit on & relational to our lives! Subscribed & look forward to more insightful biblical gems!
That's presumably one of the passages Jesus covered with the two disciples Sunday evening on the Emmaus road when he showed them himself in all of Scripture.
But what I love about the story (and totally consistent with what you have said) is that David enunciated precisely why he did it -- and why God acted on his behalf as he did -- in order "that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel."
Perfect timing for this wonderful message... as I was scrolling Substack and thinking how weak I am when I should be sitting with the LORD, or gardening, or???
This whole teaching.....
SUPER helpful.
Thank you.
You are welcome! I'm so glad this was helpful!
So true! We need a proper perspective of this story. Thanks for sharing this. God is the ultimate hero, and David points forward to Jesus.
Amen!
